Become a Mercer Chiefs Billet Family
It’s more than a place to stay. Be part of a player’s journey.
Become a Mercer Chiefs Billet Family
A billet family hosts a player who has relocated to the area to pursue junior hockey.
These players come from across the U.S., Canada, and beyond and quickly become part of your home and daily life. What starts as hosting often turns into something much more, with many families building relationships that last well beyond a single season.
From the Program
"I know from personal experience, I have billeted boys over the years, and I can share that the experience is a wonderful one for my family. We will always consider these young men a part of our family. Also, I was once a billet player and I will always consider my host family my second family."
Coach Rob Broderick
From the Billet Coordinators
"We have welcomed players into our home, and it quickly becomes more than just hosting. They become part of your day to day life. Dinners, conversations, big wins, and tough losses. Watching them grow and move on to the next level is something really special. The relationships built through billeting do not just last a season. They often last for years."

A billet family opens their home to a player who has relocated to the area to pursue junior hockey.
For many players, this is their first time living away from home, and billet families provide a supportive, family environment during an important stage of their development.
There is no typical billet family. Families of all types participate, including two parent households, single parent families, and empty nesters. What they all share is a willingness to make a meaningful impact on a player’s life.

Billet families provide a safe, supportive home environment for the player.
This includes a clean bedroom, either private or shared with another player, along with access to food within the household. Not every meal needs to be prepared, but players should have consistent access to food as part of the family’s normal routine.
Players are expected to be treated as part of the family and to respect and follow all household rules.

Changes can happen during a junior hockey season.
If a player leaves the team, we work closely with billet families to communicate next steps and provide support. In many cases, families have the option to host another player if they choose.
Even if a player moves on, the relationships built often continue well beyond their time with the team.
